Short and Sweet: Eyes Following the Mouse for RenPy

A while ago while browsing through Reddit I saw a post from OP asking how to make the main menu with eyes visuals following the mouse. My brain didn't fully turned on back then, so I wasn't able to help with a simple solution. However, a couple of days ago I remembered this post and a solution just popped in my brain. It's actually a very simple, yet impressive little feature. 

What's Inside?

  • Main menu template for RenPy with an implemented algorithm following the mouse movement (hence the eyes following the mouse)
  • One bundle of eyes in .png and .webp (if you wish, you can make your own and change them later to customize the template to fit your art style)
  • Background image

Future plans

Since this was a 2 days burst-of-inspiration project it could definitely use some more fine tuning. 

I plan to streamline the art - I know the pupils are doing some weird stuff. I'm not an actual artist, mostly web dev so whenever I make art I need to spend a good amount of time figuring out the proper physics and lighting of movement. And I didn't quite have the time at the moment so this is definitely on the calendar. I'm also considering adding some eyelid movement.

Still in teams of art, I consider making a couple more sets in different styles, as well as some vector once which would be easily color-customizable. Maybe pixel art... There are a lot of options.

Coding is fine as it is, however adding some more steps of movement would be nice. Maybe making the number of steps customizable so you can get more or less smooth movements depending on your game style.
